They local boys got the season off to a good start posting wins over Goderich 12-3 and Centre Wellington 19-2
The Goderich game was much closer than the score indicates, as it was only 5-3 after 4 innings when Listowel pushed 7 runs across in the 5th due to walks and timely hitting. Offensively Jarrett Patenaude led the way with a couple of hits (one being a triple), while Jacob Thornback (also a triple), Caleb Warren, Owen Bender and Ben Bowman picked up 1 hit apiece. Pitching duties where spread over 3 guys, Warren got the start giving up 3 runs, on 2 hits, walked 4 and struck out 3, Bowman followed allowing 0 runs on 2 hits, walking 1 and striking out 4 then Thornback closed out striking out a pair.
Two nights later the hometown lads had their home opener versus Centre Wellington. The game started close as the Legionaries where down 1 heading into the bottom of the second but the bats exploded for 18 runs over the next 3 innings securing the 19-2 victory. Offensively Warren led the way with 3 hits while Thornback, Bender, Patenaude, Bowman and Ted Nichol (one being a HR) each had 2. Dawson Currie, Cam DeVries and Blake Nichol each chipped in with 1 hit apiece. Riley Conners, Chris Enders & Bender put in solid pitching performance holding the opponents to only 2 hits, while walking 9 and striking out 6.
The next game for the One’s is Monday May 31st when the always strong Exeter team comes to town.
