Peewee’s win Kincardine Tourny
A combined team, from the two Peewee teams, used strong pitching, good hitting and solid defense throughout the weekend tourney as they captured the A Championship.

The young Legionnaires opened the weekend Friday night in the rain against Hanover. The game started as a pitching duel as both Parker Yungblut & the Hanover pitcher where on their game despite the miserable weather. With the local boys up 3-2 in the 4th Hanover made a pitching change (due to pitch counts) which seemed to ignite the Listowel lads as they scored 9 runs in the next 2 innings the take the game 12-2. Yungblut pitched the complete game, allowing only 4 base runners. Game 2 pitted Listowel against the home town Cardinals, and this game was decided by the end of the 1st inning as the Listowel bats struck early and often. When the dust eventually cleared Listowel had scored 10 runs then cruised to the 19-3 victory. Game 3 saw the locals face Centre Wellington and again the all round team effort would prove too much as the Legionnaires prevailed 11-1.

With 3 convincing wins Listowel headed into the semi-finals as the number 1 seed and would again face Hanover (4th seed). This game was highlited by the Listowel offense as pounded out 19 hits over the 6 innings. The one two punch of Caleb Warren and Riley Conners (3 hits apiece) lead the charge as Ben Bowman, Owen Bender, Jarrett Patenaude, Drew McKee, Chris Enders and Yungblut each had 2, while Cole McKee chipped in 1. With the 15-5 victory Listowel would face the tournament Cinderella team from Goderich. The Seahawks had a great run to the finals using good pitching and timely hitting, however their run was about to end as the hot hitting of the Legionnaires would carry over to the finals. Despite facing one of the better pitchers of the weekend the local boys again pounded out 21 hits on route to the 22-3 victory. Warren, Conners and Bender each had 3 hits, while Jacob Thornback, Patenaude, Drew McKee and Yungblut had 2 hit apiece. Enders, Bowman, Dawson Currie and Brandon Penkauskas added 1 each.

Although the team plan is to take a slightly different crew to the next tournament, which gives more kids the opportunity to experience the tournament atmosphere, the coaching staff of Rob Hollinger, Corey McKee, Marc Bowman, Derek Fraser and Pete Zister where obviously pleased with the progress of this team.
