Peewee’s win a Thriller & Lose a Laugher

It was complete opposites this week for the peewees as they beat Kitchener 8-7 then lost to Guelph 14-2

Tuesday night's game in Kitchener had an auspicious beginning as the young Legionaries just didn’t seem into the game and the score showed as they trailed the Panthers 6-3 heading into the 6th inning. But cue the comeback, as they manufactured 3 runs in the 6th & 2 more in the 7th to take the lead 8-6. In the 7th inning Kitchener got one back to close the gap to 1 run then with a runner on 1st base their best hitter launched one to the fence, but a perfect relay from Will Calder to Brett MacLeod to Chris Enders would tag the runner out at home plate to secure the 8-7 victory.

Calder & Michael Uptigrove would combine for the victory on the mound as they allowed 10 hits over the 7 innings while walking 4 & striking out 6. Derek Fisher would lead the offense as he collected 3 hits, Enders, Nic O’Grady, Calder & Reid Gooding would each have 2 hits while MacLeod, Uptigrove & Cam Devries chipped in with 1 each.

Wednesday night’s game against the undefeated Guelph Royals was a different story. The hometown lads again seemed to lack the spark required, however they managed to keep the game close for a few innings but timely hitting by Guelph and some metal errors by the Legionaries allowed the game to quickly get out of hand resulting in the 14-2 loss.

Fischer got the start on the mound and gave up 5 runs over 3 innings while walking 2 and striking out 3. Parker Yungblut finished the game allowing 9 runs on 7 hits, walking 1 and striking out 1. Offensively the Legionaries could only muster 3 hits (Bailey Matheson, Jeff Mock & Yungblut). On an injury note the game was also very costly as catcher Bailey Matheson could be out for the season with broken thumb.

The peewees are back in action this weekend as they have a double header with Woodstock on Saturday in Listowel starting @ 1:00
