The young Legionaries lost a tough one to Kitchener
10-6, then rebounded with 2 convincing victories over Cambridge (18-5) and St Marys (19-0)
Tuesday night Listowel faced the
Kitchener Panthers, who are improving with every outing. Parker Yungblut got
the start and struggled with his good stuff early but eventually found his
grove as he pitched 4 innings allowing 8 runs, on 7 hits, walked 4 while
striking out 3. Owen Hamilton would finish the final 3 innings allowing only 2
runs on 5 hits. Offensively Lucas Jamieson and Ben Bowman sung the hot bats as
each collected 3 hits, Hamilton
swatted out 2, while Brett MacLeod, Jeff Mock, Yungblut and Reid Gooding
chipped in with 1 each. However the Panthers solid defence would prevail 10-6.
Wenesday night the young Legionaries would rebound against
Cambridge in a game that was never in doubt as the visiting peewees scored 11
runs over the 1st 2 innings then cruised to an 18-5 victory. Bowman
& Chris Enders would combine to hold the Cubs to only 6 hits while walking
5 and striking out 5. Jamieson continued to swing a hot bat as he collected 5
hits (3 double, a triple & single), Yungblut, had a pair, while Enders,
Bowman, Hamilton, MacLeod, Gooding, Michael Uptigrove, & Nic O’Grady all
had 1.
Thursday night would prove to be another sleeper as the hometown
Legionaries would again jump out to an early lead enroute to a 19-0 drubbing of
St Marys. MacLeod would pick up the win as he throw 4 innings using only 38 pitches,
giving up 2 hits and striking out 3. In an unique occurrence all Legionaries’ players
picked up at least one hit in the game.
The young peewees have a light schedule next week with only one
game in St Marys on Wednesday night.
