Peewee’s Advance to WOBA Finals

The young Legionaries showed some great resilience over the weekend as they advance to the WOBA finals

The weekend in St Marys didn’t get off to the start the peewees were hoping for as they faced one of the leagues toughest teams in Exeter. Some rusting pitching combined with spotty defense resulted in several unearned runs which would haunt the local lads as Exeter scored frequently over the 1st few innings on route to a convincing 18-6 beating of the Legionaries. Game 2 against Kincardine saw the bats come alive & the team play better defense, a recipe which would result in an easy 10-0 victory. The team’s new found confidence spilled over to the next game against Hanover 1 as the Legionaries scored runs in every inning and again cruised to an 11-1 victory. With this victory the peewees would advance to the round of 4, but a draw to see who they would play resulted in a rematch with undefeated Exeter. The local lads capitalized on a tired Exeter team (3rd game of the day) by scoring 5 runs in the 1st, then adding runs in every inning after that. Solid pitching & great defense would prevent Exeter from mounting any form of offense as the young Legionaries went on to the 13-3 victory. With the win the tournament would now have 3 teams remaining (all with 1 loss) so a draw would have to determine who would receive the bye to the finals… and as fate would have it, Listowel would win that bye. However due to the weather the tournament could not finish on the weekend, so at some date yet to be determined Listowel will play the winner of Hanover 2 and Exeter for the WOBA title.
