Peewee OBA squad wins "A" centre Orillia tourney
The Listowel Peewee OBA team took a significant step up from its usual ‘D’ classification at a weekend tournament in Orillia....

ultimately winning the ‘A’ centre tournament with a championship final victory over Kitchener. Listowel opened the tournament with a 4-1 win over Pelham on July 22. The team followed up that performance with a narrow 5-4 victory over East York on Saturday morning.  Listowel’s only loss of the tournament would come at the hands of host Orillia later in the day by a 9-6 score, but the team’s 2-1 round robin record was enough to earn it a semi-final berth versus the Woodstock Wranglers on July 24.  The Peewee OBA squad again delivered in the semis, edging Woodstock 1-0 and booking a spot in the Sunday final versus Kitchener. The final would prove to be one-sided, with Listowel taking the top prize at the tournament with a convincing 9-1 victory. “We pride ourselves on being a team who plays great defense and that skill was on display all weekend,” said head coach Mike Smith. “This was a shared tourney win as each and every player contributed defensively with a strong play at a key moment in the games.  “Additionally, it makes the coaching staff extremely proud to hear comments from other teams’ coaches and parents about how our team plays the game the right way and are sportsmanlike on and off the field. These young men represent Listowel well and deserved this tournament win over an extremely warm weekend of ball in Orillia.”
