REMINDER
Dear Team Captains, Coaches and Parents,
As per the Smoke-Free Ontario Act, it is illegal to smoke or hold lit tobacco within 20 metres of a publicly-owned sporting area and its adjacent spectator area. All the Municipality of North Perth - owned ball diamonds are 100% smoke-free. Please note, this includes public sidewalks and vehicles parked in public parking lots or on the side of the road within the 20 metre setback rule.
Failure to comply with the Act can result in a minimum fine of $305. Tobacco Enforcement Officers conduct inspections of public sporting areas to ensure compliance and issue fines when necessary.
It is the responsibility of the owner, operator or person in charge of the team to ensure compliance with the Act. As a team captain, you have a responsibility to ensure that teams and players are made aware that smoking within 20 metres of a sporting or spectator area is illegal. You must also ensure that people do not smoke in the prohibited areas.
For more information, contact a Tobacco Enforcement Officer at the Perth District Health Unit 519-271-7600 ext 772
Thank you for your cooperation.
