Submitted By Trevor Reading on Sunday, June 27, 2010
The 2010 version of the Mosquito OBA squad travelled to Goderich for their first action together of this season. With the WOBA season well under way the coaching staff were looking forward to some competitive action for the OBA squad.

The first game of the tournament was against an East London squad. The boys came out flying with the bats and took an early 6-0 lead after one inning. Strong pitching by Derek Fischer and Reid Gooding held the London bats at bay, while strong hitting performances by Reece Reading, Lucas Jamieson and Will Calder put the game well out of reach. After the dust cleared the boys came away with an 18-0 win.

Early Saturday morning brought Tillonsburg to the diamond for another tilt. With a strong performance the night before the team came ready to battle once again. Once again the pitching was stellar with Reece Reading, Brett MacLeod and Micheal Uptigrove putting in strong performances. Very solid defensive game by Keegan Reesor, Ethan Cook and Austin Mcgrath helped out the pitching. Listowel wins 21-2.

The final game in the peliminary round fitted Listowel vs Dorchester. Once again pitching was the order of the day with Will Calder, Lucas Jamieson and Micheal Uptigrove all putting in strong performances. The bats were still booming as Nick O'grady, Jamieson, Uptigrove, Reading and Calder all put in strong batting performances. Listowel wins 16-6.

The speech for the boys early on Sunday morning was that anything and anyone can win on Sunday. The best four teams in the tournament were on the field to battle it out for the title. Listowel was fitted against a strong South West London team.

With a strong start to the game by London the Listowel squad trailed 7-4 after four innings. The pitchers were in tough against a strong London line-up and in the fifth the Listowel defense showed some inexperience in the field and put themselves into a deep hole that they just couldn't climb out. Listowel loses 16-11.

After watching the weekend play the coaching staff was very impressed with the solid play of all players. There is some work to be done, but this seasons squad look very strong and will be very competitve all season.

Great Weekend guys!
