What a weekend, what a season.
This past weekend the Legionnaires Peewee 1 team played in the WOBA division 3 championships in Dundalk/Flesherton. They started off on Friday vs Grand Bend in Dundalk. The boys put in a full effort at the plate and in the field winning the game 8-3 in 6 innings. Matthew Leroux pitched the complete game allowing 3 runs and striking out 13 batters. The pitching was excellent as was the fielding from all positions including Tristan Dietrich catching a great game.
Soggy Saturday was played in Dundalk starting with Exeter Express Red. Zach Hallam got the start and pitched into the 4th inning with limited runs against and nice lead from the legionnaires. With the idea of protecting pitch counts Jacob Wilken came in to relief pitch and like Zach pitched effectively despite the constant rain. With great Pitching, Batting and Fielding the Legionnaires came away with the W 12-3.
Leading up the final round robin game vs Owen Sound Blue the Legionnaires decided to start where they ended off vs Exeter with Jacob Wilken on the Mound. The first few innings had the Legionnaires poised to walk away with another win, yet errors in the field led to their demise. Tristan Dietrich came in to pitch in the 4th inning but the errors made in the field were too much for the team to recover. Owen Sound Won 10-6.
With 2 Wins and 1 Loss our legionnaires seeded 2nd and qualified for the Semi's vs Hanover #2 Sunday morning in Flesherton. Thanks to timely batting and excellent pitching the coaches had the luxury of having all pitchers available for the Semi's and Finals.
The starting battery of Jacob Wilken on the Mound and Matthew Leroux catching paved the way for a huge offensive output from all 10 players and another brilliant performance on the mound. With 12 runs brought in Wilken reached his max pitch count in the 6th, Zach Hallam came in to end the inning with some efficient pitching. The Legionnaires won 12-2 and punched their ticket into the Finals vs Owen Sound Orange.
Matthew Leroux was given the nod to start on the mound with Tristan Dietrich catching in the final. The boys came out strong in the first inning with 3 runs, followed by 1 run in the 2nd which was an in the park Home Run by Ethan Legate due to some throwing errors on Owen Sound's part and some quick base running by Legate. The Legionnaires had one more run in the 3rd. Owen Sound Pitching stymied the boys for the remainder of the game. The Legionnaires fielding was exceptional allowing Matthew Leroux to put down an unforgettable performance on the mound. Pitching another complete game this time all 7 innings and a shutout at that with 5 pitches to spare. He struck out 14 and gave up 2 hits. With that the Legionnaires won 5-0 and the division 3 Championship.
