Peewee's Bow out in OBA "B" Championships
Submitted By Rob Hollinger on Tuesday, September 7, 2010
Despite playing at a higher level than any Listowel team has in the past, the locals boys competed well in the OBA's this past weekend.

Coming into the weekend the local peewees knew they would have to be at the top of their game in order to compete against the larger "B" centres. Game one pitted the young Legionaires against one of the tourny favourites from leamington. Ben Bowman got the start and pitched well holding the Lakers to just 1 run heading into the 4th inning. However a couple errors and timely hitting by Leamington pushed 5 runs across, giving the Lakers the 6-1 lead. Listowel would continue to battle actually loading the bases in the 5th but just could get the big timely hit eventually losing 13-3. Riley Conners was selected as Listowel's player of the game.
In the 2nd game the local boys would face Wyoming, this was another great game featuring some good defense & solid pitching by both teams. the Legionaires where down by a run heading into the top of the 7th but the local boys would not quite. Some great at bats, timely hits and agressive base running helped the locals push 7 runs across the plate giving them the 9-3 led. Blake Nichol would close the door in the home half of the 7th giving Listowel the win. Jacob Thornback was the POG for his great pitching through 6 innnings and a key at bat in the 7th.
Game 3 saw Listowel come up against Bolton. This would prove to be another great pitching match-up as Parker Yungblut got the start for Listowel. The bats seemed to come alive but we just couldn't get any breaks as many hard hit balls seemed to be right at the opposition players, who to their credit made the plays. Down by a couple runs the Legionaires continued to battle but with rain delays (the game was actually suspended) the team couldn't really amount a sustained rally and eventually lost 4-1. Yungblut was the POG due to his solid pitching performance.
Despite ending the season on a losing note, the parents & coaches couldn't be more pleased with the team's effort. This group proved they could compete at this higher level and maybe with some added experience throughout the year against teams of this caliber the outcome may have been different... maybe.
