First Home Game
Felt great to be able to play our first home game! Although we fell short a couple runs, we pitched and batted well throughout the game.
Brynnlie started pitching the game with Maddy very skillfully catching for her. They had a tough start with bases loaded and 1 walked in, but tightened up ship and struck the next 3 batters out only allowing that first run in. Bottom of the 1st, Sadie made it to base with a great eye and Maddy and Brynnlie secured singles bringing Sadie home. Heading into the top of the 2nd, two runs came in with walks but Brynnlie managed to hang tight and shut it down with 3 more strike outs. Bottom of the 2nd, Lucy, Zoey, Zayden, all managed to hit, but Mildmay fielded a great defense and held us from scoring any runs.
Brynnlie took the mound again top of the 3rd, and struck another 2 batters out, but with Mildmay barely taking the bat off their shoulders, our team defensively saw ONLY ONE hit in 3 innings. Unfortunately Mildmay managed to bring in the max number of scored runs. Bottom of the third our bats fired up! Isabel started the inning with a great double hit! Brynnlie cranked the ball for a home run out left field! With Alexis on base next, Ariana and Chloe secured strong singles and Maddy also succeeded a strong double, all bringing in the 5 max runs. Love to see bats swinging and balls being hit.
Top of the 4th, Zoey made her debut as pitcher, and did very well. She struck a batter out but they managed to steal to first. We did a pitching switch to take the pressure off and try to hold up runs. Ariana went into close the inning and Mildmay made their 2nd and final hit of the game, now with max runs in. Listowel didn't back down, they went to bat hoping to do their best even though with a run cap, the game was already decided no matter how the girls did. Isabel started us with a single and Brynnlie cranked another home run going 3 for 3 this game at the plate! Alexa, Ariana and Lucy all connected for singles and Chloe slammed a huge hit which potentially could have ran in 3 more runs, however sadly with bats on fire, and with no one out, the game was called because that was 5 run max. Never again will I agree to the run cap in the last inning because that agreeance at the start of the game, cost us the win.
It makes it very hard on a pitcher and unfortunately boring for a team when the other team waits for the walk. Coach Alexa, Coach Bree and I are so EXTREMELY proud of the girls aggressive work at bat! They swing and try hard which makes for a real ball game for all players! Hopefully next game will allow for some great defensive plays too! Keep it up girls!
