Peewee’s Busy Week Results in 3 Victories

The peewees capped off a busy week with victories over Kitchener 8-7, Cambridge 14-1 & Clinton 14-2

The 1st game of the week saw a much more determined Kitchener team visit Listowel looking to avenge an early season beating. The game was a good pitching dual as Derek Fischer battled a strong Panther pitcher over the 1st 4 innings. The young Legionaries had a few mental errors which inflated Fisher’s line which finished with 5 runs on 4 hits, 2 walks & 7 K’s. Ben Bowman came in and held Kitchener at bay allowing 2 runs, on 2 hits, 0 walks & 5 K’s over 3 innings. Offensively the game was a see-saw affair which saw the local lads score a run in the bottom of the 7th to secure the 8-7 victory. Bowman lead the way with 2 hits while Jeff Mock, Michael Uptigrove, Chris Enders, Reid Gooding & Fischer all had 1 hit apiece.

The 2nd game of the week was a road game in Cambridge & despite a short bench the Legionaries were victorious behind a splendid pitching performance from Parker Yungblut. Yungblut was near perfect through 4 innings striking out 11 batters while walking only 1. The offense would be plenty as the Listowel lads racked up 14 runs over the 5 innings. Fisher would lead the way with 4 hits, while Austin McGrath had 2 and  Brett MacLeod, Yungblut, Gooding & Nic O’Grady each chipped in with 1 hit. MacLeod would be called upon to mop up the game pitching the 5th inning.

Game 3 of the week and the 3rd night in a row saw the Legionaries host Clinton in their 1st WOBA game of the season. The game started off slow many due the chilly weather but the hometown lads exploded for 6 runs in the 2nd innings then added runs in each of the next 2 innings enroute to their 14-2 victory. Lucas Jamieson got the start & was strong over 3 innings allowing 1 run, on 2 hits, 1 walk & 6 K’s. Enders would pitch the 4th inning giving up a run, on 1 hit, 2 walks & 2 K’s. Fischer would again lead the offense with a pair of hits while MacLeod, Uptigrove, Jamieson, Enders & Will Calder would each have one.

The team is back in action Monday night in Kitchener then again Tuesday night at home versus the 1st place Guelph Royals.
