Peewee Legionaries Qualify for OBA “C” Championships
The local lads won 2 very tight games versus Hanover 7-6 & 8-7 to advance to the OBA Championships in Belle River on the Labor Day Weekend

This past week was a very busy week for the peewees as they played 6 games in 5 days, but the team’s depth and grit show through when it was needed. The week started in Cambridge where the Legionaries walked away with a 13-1 victory, then moved to Exeter where the Listowel youths handed a short-handed Exeter team a sounding 11-1 loss. The next games on the agenda were a triple-header in Listowel on Saturday. The day started with game 1 of the OBA qualifier against a good Hanover team. The home team took an early lead only to have Hanover tie the game up in the top of the 7th inning. The Legionaries responded with a run in the bottom of the 7th to win the game 7-6. The excitement was short lived as the peewees now had a late afternoon double-header against Woodstock. The 1st game saw Listowel jump out to the early lead and eventually hold on for the 9-5 victory, game 2 was a different story as Woodstock took an early 5 run lead but despite being weary the local lads battled back and scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 7th for the 7-6 victory. The marathon week of ball was not over, as the Legionaries had to travel to Hanover on Sunday for game 2 of the OBA qualifying series. Listowel again took an early 2-0 lead but the Hurricanes stormed back scoring 7 times over 2 innings. Undaunted the Listowel lads narrowed the gap to 3 heading into the 7th innings where again we would witness a rally. Thanks to some timely hits and good base running the Legionaries platted 3 runs to tie the game. After holding Hanover off the scoreboard in the bottom of the 7th the locals mounted another rally in the 8th inning but some good Hanover defense would hold Listowel to only 1 run. The Legionaries would shut the door in the bottom of the 8th and thus win the game 8-7 to advance to the OBA Championships.

You can’t win 6 games in 5 days without every player contributed at some point over the week. The team showed great depth especially in the pitching department, as well there were several key hits, heads-up base running and sound or at times spectacular defensive. The regular season schedule is almost over but the team is gearing up for the WOBA Championships in just 2 weeks.
